When I was 19 years old and began to make love for long periods of time using Taoist techniques, I began to understand the attraction of stillness. In the moments when our movements ceased, different sensations of reality would open up... our bodies would become more polarized, more alive, and waves not just of pleasure, but of the very experience of existence, would travel through our bodies and between us, and when our eyes were open, our forms would dissolve, sometimes into light, sometimes into emptiness... The movement would create heat and release energy, but the stillness would build the charge... So if you've never played with those sensations, try this... first soothe yourselves with massage, sauna, a hot bath, etc. Breathe as deeply as you can with the muscles of your lower abdomen and pelvic floor - deep diaphragmatic breathing. Next entwine your bodies in Shiva Lata Mudra. A mudra is an attitude or gesture. Lata is a flowering vine or creeper. Shiva is the original yogi or tantric, quiet, still, steady, aware. The vine represents feminine energy, kinetic and potential. It spirals from the ground upwards, flowering open to the sky above as it entwines the axis provided by the yogi, whose consciousness is dead without it... In Shiva Lata Mudra, the female sits on the male's left thigh. Both sit relaxed but straight, facing forward, his left arm behind her back, his left hand gently cupping her left breast. Her right arm drapes into his lap, her right hand lightly entwining his sex. Both breathe slowly and deeply. Their eyes are closed. The warmth of their hands barely cupping the sensitive flesh of the other, their bodies entwined in the particular geometry of the position, they experience both profound arousal and the temporary awakening of the energy dormant in the base of their spines. In the mundane version, the lovers wait until both are flushed with heat and glistening in anticipation. The longer they remain apart, the more aroused they become, and the more explosive their eventual embrace when they break the mudra and pounce on each other. In spiritual practice, lovers who have learned samadhi (one-pointed focus and mental stillness) in individual meditation learn to raise the tremendous energy building from their attraction, and by remaining in Shiva Lata Mudra for hours, they experience tremendous bliss on levels far beyond the physical thrill of the mundane version. Every nerve and endocrine receptor is alive, the pineal gland and internal awareness opening into spiritual ecstasy. For every student, there is a teacher. Keep in touch! Smile, breathe right, and keep your tongue up! Your Friend, Tao Semko of www.UmaaTantra.com P.S.
